[feature request] Connecting to multiple mattermost servers #1512

Closed trash-anger closed 6 years ago

trash-anger commented 6 years ago

Hi,

I looked to set in my android's mattermost app a second mattermost server and, correct me if I'm wrong, it seems impossible ...

The thing is that discovered mattermost in my current school and I convert all my company's colleagues who now uses mattermost.

I would terribly love to use mattermost on my phone for both my school and company ! 👍

Do you think it's possible ?

trash-anger commented 6 years ago

I just read that : https://mattermost.uservoice.com/forums/306457-general/suggestions/10975938-ios-and-android-apps-should-allow-multiple-server

:/

koxen commented 6 years ago

unfortunately due to how codebase currently works it would be very hard to implement :/

koxen commented 6 years ago

if you are fine with 2 servers, you can join the betatesting and use "mattermost beta" for the second server

trash-anger commented 6 years ago

Oh !!! Very good idea ! ;) Thank you !

enahum commented 6 years ago

is not just the code base cause we could work really really hard and have a nice UX for it and everything but then you have another problem that involves different certificates to get notifications from our hosted push notification proxy and then from those who deploy their own mattermost push proxy which requires them to build the app and thus certificates are different, etc..

so in short is a very complex scenario that needs to be solved.

trash-anger commented 6 years ago

I'm know almost nothing about how the app is coded and how to correctly (and securely) develop it.

But concerning the UX, I see exactly how to implement it ! ;)

enahum commented 6 years ago

Foorian that would be a great first step, perhaps you could join our pre-release server and then join the UX mobile channel and share your ideas.

Hi @trash-anger,

I'm going to close this issue off here for now. Please feel free to add your vote to the feature request on our forum to increase its popularity.

Workaround: you can clone Mattermost App using App Cloner and have many apps - one per server - it's working for me :)

trash-anger commented 6 years ago

Great work around ! Thank you ! [image: cid:image001.png@01D1BDB6.89818780] Florian Frouin Promotion digital medias 2018 +33 (0)6 71 33 51 64

I'm going to close this issue off here for now.

Strong objection: this feature request should stay open until it is resolved, as need for multiple servers is a common scenario in deployment. That way, users can at least find some information about the issue here, instead of filing duplicate reports. Regarding the workaround: com.applisto.appcloner has been taken been taken down by google.

hanzei commented 5 years ago

Work on this feature has been begun. You can follow the progress via https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-11067.

andrewgdunn commented 5 years ago

Can you re-open this feature... or consider disabling issues altogether and forcing people towards your atlassian instance. It's confusing that this is closed even though the feature is in in development.

Would you consider financial prioritization for this feature?

esethna commented 5 years ago

Hi @storrgie, thanks for the feedback. We use GitHub issues for bug reports and ask that feature requests be diverted to http://www.mattermost.org/feature-requests/ as per the issue template.

As for where we are at on multi-server support, we've opened a channel for discussion and updates on the feature. It's currently queued for Q4 2019 and is in the design stage. https://community.mattermost.com/core/channels/rn-multi-server-suppot

karser commented 5 years ago

IMHO this feature is not important. It's easy to work around this by using the Dual Apps. or there is also a feature in MIUI that does the same out of the box. I wish Mattermost developers joined forces with Gitlab folks and implemented Mattermost backup for GitLab Omnibus https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-10015

andrewgdunn commented 5 years ago

@karser classy hijack of a thread.

varac commented 4 years ago

Any updates on this, as Q4 2019 already started ?

enahum commented 4 years ago

Work already started but it will take time

kylerlaird commented 4 years ago

I'm starting to recommend Mattermost to others and I want to be able to use all of the servers I configure from my Android phone. It appears that an app "cloner" is the solution here. I haven't used one. I see that many don't support notifications, which I definitely want for Mattermost. Any suggestions on a version that works well? I prefer an Open or pay version (no ads, etc.).

syky27 commented 4 years ago

Any update on this? @enahum

esethna commented 4 years ago

For those following this thread, we are heavily focused on reliability and performance of the mobile app at the moment. Many of the components within the app need refactors in order to performantly and reliably add multi-server support, and that is our focus right now. Multi-server support is certainly on our roadmap, and we are building the foundation to support it :)

moburkhardt commented 2 years ago

two years later, any update on this feature? Seems like something many people including myself are vying for.

larkox commented 2 years ago

We are at the moment working on this. You can join the Gekidou (codename for the new version of the mobile app) channel in the community servers to get the latest news: https://community.mattermost.com/core/channels/ship-gekidou--mobile-v2

Right now we are in "internal alpha" stage, so keep tuned for when we enter the beta stage.

theAkito commented 1 year ago

Does the recent breakthrough version of this app change anything about the status of this issue? :)

larkox commented 1 year ago

@theAkito The new version recently published publicly on the stores allows for multiple servers, so I think this issue can be considered completely closed

theAkito commented 1 year ago

@larkox Wow, great! 😮 😄
