Book Cover #267

I realize this may be way late for a change like this, but I've been thinking about the book cover and wonder if you are open to suggestions?

While I like that the cover is simple and very utilitarian—with a field guide/manual sense to it—for an "Illustrated Guide" the cover design doesn't visually communicate a theme of illustration. The book is filled with so many extremely well thought-out diagrams, and the cover should also convey that richness graphically.

Here are a couple comps I put together—one darker and one lighter. They could equally be printed in a matte finish to convey that same look of utility. I tried to capture your use of diagrams with the arrows and dashed lines. The horizontal band helps break up the page, and allows the title to be consolidated.

This was all done in Illustrator, and I can send you the vector files if you'd like them.

And obviously this would increase the cost, but if you could have the center band coated with a UV varnish (as simulated below) this would really set it apart. Just an idea :)

And although not depicted here, it might be good to apply the UV coating to the "Covers Python 3.6" badge in the top corner.

For reference, here's a book with the type of coating to which I'm referring:

Am running a 99 Designs competition. Sadly I don't have fine-grained control over UV glossy areas.
