Feature Request: Allow merging channel groups in IPTV Merge #260

I use Kodi on my Sony Android TV, and also on an Amazon Firestick on another TV. I am using your add-ons for Pluto TV, Samsung TV+, (both with GB and US selected), and IPTV Merge. I also "Merge" in my own playlist of international news channels. I have been trying, with limited success, for some time now to resolve a particular issue, so I am reaching out to you in the hope that you can help please?

The problem that I have is that I now have 39 different "Channel Groups" across the top of my Kodi EPG, many of which are very similar and I would like to be able to merge similar categories in to one group. For example, I have 3 different Channel Groups for " News", "News & Opinion" and "News + Opinion", that I would like to sort in to one Group to keep all of the similar channels together. Other examples are the various Groups for sports and gaming etc, and Motor/Motoring.

What I have tried myself:

1.) I have found how to use IPTV Merge to edit each individual channel's "Channel Groups", but as I have hundreds of channels to change this is a very slow process - having to key in each letter of the new category via the on-screen keyboard. I am not aware of any way to "copy and paste" the categories on either the Sony TV or Firestick?

2.) I have tried downloading the relevant m3u playlists for Pluto and SamsungTV from your website, edited the "group-title" for each channel as appropriate, and pointed IPTV Merge to use this playlist on my home server instead of your dedicated addons. This works, but again is very laborious, and will need regular maintenance by me to keep up with new channels and numbering etc going forward.

Question:

Is it possible, or can a feature be added to IPTV Merge, for the "Channel Groups" option for each channel to include a facility to move it to another already existing group - possibly via a drop-down menu? Hoping that you can help with this please!

possible idea: for starters - just allow for a text file of groups where each line can have

[group name] - [include groups] eg. News: News & Opinion, News + Opinion

Or better yet, a regex pattern to match against

This would be an excellent feature. I have the same issues where my IPTV provider supplies hundreds of channels that are poorly grouped. At the moment sort of have to do this outside of IPTV merge through python script that manipulates both the EPG and Playlist using regexp which works well enough, this feature would make IPTV merge even more essential as an addon. Another way to group inside kodi is to add the individual PVR channels to a widget group and create widgets groups for EPG groups but this is very annoying too.

I may be missing something but this can be done quite easily within the Kodi group manager.

Settings > PVR & Live TV > General > Group Manager
