Yeah, as is documented in the FAQ.  mencoder isn't perfect. Sometimes odd files 
from
the tivo can make it crash (usually more so for the mpeg-2 conversions).  I try 
to
update to the latest mencoder when possible, but it is not source code I 
maintain so
there's not much I can do about it crashing  :(

  Marking as wontfix.  Hope some other conversion formats are working out for you
instead (or that this crash is unique to one or so files).
