This is to fix #71

Ok, it looks like we'll need a new stable branch for 311 onwards. Created #92 to prepare 310 branch for this. Once it's merged we'll be able to create a new 311 branch, update it's version.php and then re-target this PR to it

Re-worked the patch to be workable for both 310 and 311. Happy to have it merged.
