Section 5.2 Validating a JWM

or that are specified as being ignored when not understood.

Which fields are specified this way? e.g., should all unknown extension fields be ignored?

Section 3 JWM Attributes answers this question. TLDR: application/context specific.

However, in the absence of such requirements, all attributes that are not understood by implementations MUST be ignored.
