Authenticator app #419

Hello,

I used your app as a 2 factor authorisation for my Instagram account. I got logged out of that account and whenever I sign in, it asks for a code. When I changed my phone, my authenticator app did not update with it. So I don’t get any code on that app, since I don’t remember the secret key. Can you please help me figure this issue out? I’ve worked very hard for this Instagram account as it’s my work and I run a book club through it. I would be so grateful.

Hello,

A few questions to help you with your issue.

  1. Do you still have your old phone?
  2. Did you ever save an encrypted backup of your old phone, such as by connecting it to your MacOS computer?

Hello, thanks for getting back to me.

  1. I do have my old phone but I erased it when I changed to a new one. Also, I restored the phone and checked if the app still had any codes on it but it doesn’t.
  2. I don’t have an encrypted back up.

Hello Rasti,

I think you are out of luck. The only possible solution I think that might work is to check and see if iCloud Keychain sync is on. If you had that setting turned on for your old phone, but did not yet turn it on with your new phone, turning it on might get you your old codes. But that is not guaranteed.

Follow these instructions to turn on iCloud Keychain on your new device.

If that doesn't fix your issue, then you are out of options and will have to continue trying to solve it by reaching out to Facebook or instagram.
