Is it possible to issue media control commands like play/pause/skip if they are already controllable by the unit for the source?

Looking at the spec, I can't immediately see this as possible, though a more fragile option would be to achieve it via the button press command to emulate someone hitting a physical key on the keypad.

So yes, possible to achieve.
