The New York Police Department plans to add a new precinct, the 116th, on November 1, 2024. Update the sectors and precincts in this repository with new shapes.
While we are at it let's add some documentation on the creation process.
The 116th is in Queens and it does touch the shoreline, barely. Possible procedure:
Delete a few old sectors that need to be replaced
Clip one new sector back to land and add it to the bunch
Add the other new (all land) sectors with modified shapes
Generalization here I guess? How can the new and old shapes become aligned?
Rinse and repeat geojson to topojson
Build precincts hierarchically
Another possible path is to take all new coterminous sectors of Brookyn and Queens. Run them through the process and append to Manhattan, Bronx, and Staten Island.
The more enterprisey option is to import the new data to PostgreSQL and try for a repeatable process.
