It's already possible to see dimensions in object mode through an option in the N panel in the 3D view.

Also, is there anyway of applying dimensions to a torus so its thickness can be scaled with a dimension?

When adding a dimension, it only shows after moving the view a little.

It would be useful to be able to see dimensions in object mode as well. Is that possible?
