Add a unit shortcut/symbol to food name #44

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Point are always relative to the size of the unit.
Currently food's names are free-form, and the calculator multiplies the entry
value of units we select.
But sometimes it will be wise to use a per-unit value, and for other foods it
would be better to use per-weight values.

It would be great if the calculator included a "serving size" field, and
whenever that field is 1 it will be according to weight (the default in Israel,
where I live is 100gr), but when the field is different then 1, a symbol will
appear near the name stating it is a point's per serving value.

summary:
- add "serving size" to the foods database
- display a "per serving" symbol, for serving counted entries
- display a "by weight" symbol, for weighted entries

this will make the database more robust.

I've been thinking of a way to do this more formally (other than putting the
serving size in the subject of the food line)

Accepting the ticket, but the implementation down the road may vary and I'm not
sure yet when I'll get to it. I do have a few issues I'm looking to address in
the short to medium term.

Thanks for accepting the issue.
As a software hobbyist myself, I thought about this, and from the usability
point of view I realize that my idea might be a bit cumbersome.
The best way I believe would be to "keep it simple" by at least introducing a
"serving size" to the formula fields, where the default is 1.

but maybe that's not so simple for non-mathematical humans (which is the vast
majority).
