What version of Android are you running? 2.3.4

What device do you have (phone/tablet)? HTC What brand/model? (my touch
t-mobile branded Sense version 2.1

Please provide any additional information below.
Hello twice in the past two weeks i have lost 5 days worth of data, weights,
food exercise. i can not retrieve the info. this never happened before the
latest update. i love this app and would hate to have to go back to writing
everything down

Thanks for writing this up. A few people have emailed me about this and I'm
actively looking into it.

Kicking in my $.02...

What steps will reproduce the problem?

I was only able to actively reproduce the data loss once by activating a
navigation app called Waze. After exiting that app, that day's entries had been
erased. I attempted this again but no loss of data. The entries disappeared an
hour later after I woke my phone back up.

What is the expected output?
That day's entries and previous day's entries.

What do you see instead?
That day's entries are missing. Also missing data on phone and online from Oct
11 onward.

What version of WWDiary are you using (check the "what's new" screen)?
6.4.8

What version of Android are you running?
2.3.4

What device do you have (phone/tablet)?
HTC G2 phone

Please provide any additional information below.
Log data shows WWDiary processes have been ending unexpectedly. I have Watchdog
on my phone - which can kill tasks - but I've never gotten any warnings about
WWDiary eating up memory or CPU time. I have added WWDiary to the whitelist to
see if that helps.

Just looked at my phone and the whitelisting didn't help.

@alexstorey
Are you currently syncing? You had indicated that you had restored your
database and broke the sync relationship. Can you please confirm that syncing
is enabled and active and that deleted entries are also removed from the site
as well?

I think another user has reported that entries on the website remain intact.

Original comment by ddumont on 23 Oct 2012 at 5:58

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Yes, I am syncing. Data is saving to the site. I restored the DB earlier today
and I used remote data.

original comment/problem had nothing to do with syncing. i only use app on my
cell

@alexstory

Ok. I see data for today and yesterday online. Please let me know when your
phone loses data again so I can check online to see if it goes away.

@lisagebhart
I know there are people who are not syncing who are having this issue. I'm
trying to determine if the app is purposefully (though faulty code) or
accidentally (through external interference or faulty code) deleting the
information.

@ddumont
does it help to know that this never occured before the most recent update?

Lost some data on the phone just now. Battery was very low. All data is online
though (I'm syncing every 5min now), but data that's left locally was from when
I backed up the DB.

Original comment by alexsto...@gmail.com on 24 Oct 2012 at 1:46

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
@alexstorey Ok well that helps a bit. Seems to be interference of some sort.

@lisahebhart Yes, I'm doing a code review of all the recent changes. Some were
quite significant.

Original comment by ddumont on 24 Oct 2012 at 1:49

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
@ddumont actually now that alexstorey mentioned it I may have had a very low
battery right before it happened. It seemed like it was several hours after
that when I lost the data...not really.sure but I could have something to do
with it.

Battery levels were high during my data loss from earlier this afternoon
though, so it might not be just that.

I've gotten my hands on a android 2.3.x device. That's so far been a common
thread from the reports so far. If you haven't yet, please post what version
of android you are running.

I haven't witnessed any data loss yet. But I have a few ideas that might help,
so I'll try to post a new version here later today for you to try out and let
me know.

Has anyone been able to reproduce this fairly consistently in a short amount of
time?

I'm interested to see detailed logs right around when the deletions actually
happen (might not be when you first notice them)

Anyway... I have a bunch of new logging in this version and some new code to
possibly fix the problem (not sure yet). Could you please try this out and
send me the LogCollector output if you see data missing again?

It hasn't happened again, it was twice since last update that's all I
know...sorry it isn't more.don't know what caused it...

Well I'm certainly glad you're not losing data anymore. But I still don't
know what caused it in the first place.

Please keep an eye out for it happening again.

No problem. Please let me know if you have any more data loss with this
version. And as soon as you do notice any (if you do) please run LogCollector
and email me the logs.

This version has a potential fix and some additional logging.

Version 6.4.9 pushed out. It should fix the issue here. Closing the ticket
now, please post here or open a new one if you still see issues with data loss.

Ok with that out of the way, I'm back looking at this problem.

I'm attaching a new version where I've disabled some of the functionality I
believe might be problematic. Could you please try this out and let me know if
you see any data loss with it?

You might see some lag or stutters, I'm not sure if you'll notice it though.
I'll focus on cleaning that up once I can verify that you no longer lose data
when using the app.

For what it's worth, I too was struggling with routine data loss (on an Android
2.3.4) and the above download seems to have resolved the issue. I experienced
at least three occurrences of data loss in a 2-3 week time span, and the update
has been operating error-free for more than two weeks now.

Thanks!

at least two losses int he last week. Will keep an eye on it and get logs the
next time it fails.

Ok that's good news so far on the data loss. I have cleaned up the code a bit
and solidified the changes I made in the temporary version. I'm nearly ready
for a public release but I wanted to make sure that it still works good for you
guys first. Can you run for a few days with this new version and let me know
how it goes?

Original comment by ddumont on 3 Dec 2012 at 3:38

Good news and bad news on version 6.5.1:

Good news: No immediate data loss was observed.

Bad news: The Favorites menu is not usable. The application crashes
(force-closes) every time an item is selected in the Favorites list. It occurs
as soon as the item is selected (the Edit Entry screen does not display), and
it occurred for all items I tested.

All other functionality seemed to work in the short time that I used version
6.5.1, but I've temporarily downgraded to 6.5.0 (as I use the Favorites menu
rather frequently). Let me know if any other information will be useful.

Thanks!

Hello. I switched phones from my touch to Motorola android recently and had
backed up the data first. But we tried moving the data back over from my PC...
And all my entries are gone. (I had a whole library of menu items with points
and I believe I lost it). Can you help?
