More cleanup of the macos builders:

Restore the package generation -- build .pkg package in travis. Closes: #55
Conditionalize travis fixes -- Closes: #56
Cleanup of parts writing clutter into the logs.
Various cleanup and comments.

@mauroc: You might want to check with @jongough if he prefers to postpone this one in case he has pending changes in ci/travis-build-osx.sh. If so, it's certainly my turn to rebase ;)

currently on hold pending @jongough response re: risk of collisioning again

These are fine to apply and may help my build process. I am not modifying these files currently.
