Hi Never,
Im sorry for the issues, hope you could solve it.
First, I would suggest disabling any special visual theme in case you set one.
Then I would suggest disabling TabMixPlus and rerun Firefox again. Try to
restore and check if it works. If not I will test whats going on with suspended
groups and try to reproduce the issue.
Ty for the report.

Hello Miguelro,
I just tried again after having disabled TMP and Classic Theme Restorer too but
the problem persists.
I use the Classic Theme with Personas but I doubt Personas can create any issue
but I might be wrong.
I forgot to disable it so let me know if you want me to try without Personas
too.
Let me also know if you want me to post a list of all my enabled extensions.
Thank you for keeping this extension alive.
I posted another review on Firefox Addons to inform people about the update.

Adding an update which could be a new thread so let me know if you want me to
do that instead.
I managed to hibernate and un-suspend enough groups to be able to save a
session and update to Firefox 31.
The problem still persists obviously but I personally managed to upgrade.
In Firefox 31 though, restored sessions mix the order of tab-groups at every
restart, remove the custom name of some groups (always the same ones) even if
"Automatic Renaming" is disabled and tab-groups icons, inbuilt into TGM or
custom ones, are always lost too.

Further testing and i found out that it is impossible, for me, to suspend any
group as by next restart of Firefox all suspended groups are gone.
Unless this affects only me it's a big issue.
I thought it happened only because I was updating 4 Firefox versions in one
but that is not the case.

Do you load all pages in all groups when you load FF?
If so try turning that off in options.
Preferences>tabs> don't load tabs until selected.
I keep 400-500 tabs open in groups but only load the tab when i click on it
or if i want the whole group to load right click and select reload group.
FF runs much better that way.

Hi irishban,
No I don't.
I use BarTab, an extension that does that, with some extra options otherwise I
wouldn't be able to load all those tabs at the same time.
Besides if that was the problem it should have happened in Fox 28 too where i
have no issues at all.
I am thinking to revert back to Firefox 28 for now.

It works for me under Ubuntu 14.04.
With FF 32.
Would you try the preference
Preferences>tabs> don't load tabs until selected.
That causes FF not to load all the tabs in a group I would think you could at
least get a working session in 31 or 32 that way.
Then restore your backed up TGM session in 28 make sure all groups are not
suspended.
Save the session then upgrade to 32.
Or you might try disabling BarTab and then exporting TGM session.
Just some ideas to try.

Just to weigh in, I am using FF 31 with beta 003 and restoring suspended groups
works like a charm for me. I am not using any other tab-related addons -
perhaps that is the reason.

Thanks dan it's important people share their experience so we can determine
which is the culprit.
It must be another extension than since I am still experiencing the problems.

Ah, sorry - my previous comment may have been misleading.
I thought we were talking about the integration with FF's own session restore,
e.g. when the browser didn't shut down properly and you click "Restore
session". This works fine for suspended tabs for me.
However I have just now had to restore a backed-up session from a .tgm2 file,
and this does not seem to work at all. All my suspended groups are lost, and
even the active group also. So it does seem like there's a problem here.
Sorry for the confusion.

@dan all right than so I can stop testing each extension.
I reverted back to Fox 28 for the moment.
Another thing that appears broken is if you try to restore a "Session saved on
Firefox Exit"
I just get a blank tab: can anyone confirm this please?

Yes - as I understand it, what this does is attempt to restore your session
from one of the .tgm2 files in the \tabgroupsmanagerdata\save_data folder. And
that does not seem to work. In other words, what you describe is the same as
what I described in my last comment.
It's quite a problem since you would normally rely on these files for backup.
For now I am manually backing up the entire profile folder on a regular basis.

@dan yes but than it shouldn't work in all cases while it does restores
manually saved sessions (sans the suspended groups of course).
Well I hope the dev guys can sort it out :)
Original comment by NeverCro...@gmail.com

I have inspected the .tgm2 files in a text editor, and it seems that the data
on suspended groups is not even written to the files in the first place. Only
"Sleeping groups", "Closed groups" and "Browser state" can be found in the
file. So the problem appears not to be about the restore process, but about how
the data is saved.
I am only talking about auto-saved files from timers or window close. I have
not tested with a manually saved session.

@dan Interesting info.
I am sure devs will find a solution.
I am just glad it's not an incompatibility with other addons as I hate to test
which is the culprit in those cases (I have too many addons clearly).
It must be something introduced in Fox 29 as 28 works like a charm.

For me all working great (with TMP enabled)
Firefox 31 / MacOS 10.9.4
On first launch, hibernated groups are missing, on second launch all groups are
back. Also check if you have Hibernated group checked in TGM Settings / Menu /
GroupBar Menu.
Just updated from Firefox 19 (yes i can't live without TGM) and happy to see
this beta 3 for FF 31 ! Keep up and thanks !

Update: after a crash of firefox, restoring from autosave timer lost all closed
/ hibernated groups. Restoring from last saved session restore only 2 openeds
groups.
Solution: I still have firefox 19, i have launched firefox 19, restored auto
saved sessions, all groups are back, close FF19 and open firefox 31: all groups
are back !
Don't see any other bugs yet.

Same problem here! After manual saving the entire session and restoring the
session, ALL SUSPENDED GROUPS ARE LOST
STRANGE THING:
When I export the group session with only one active group, the tgm2 file is
lets say 1000 kb. However, when I activate several of my groups and then export
the sessionfile, the file becomes several kb smaller in size! The more groups I
active, and save my session file to tgm2, the smaller the tgm2 file becomes!
I would have expected the opposite, from what comment #15 says, namely he says
that the problem is in the RESTOREING but in the SAVING of the tgm2 file, where
suspended groups are not saved)
What a strange weird puzzle!
