Turns on even when empty #5

As I switch redmondkettle on (set temperature and set mode to electric), the kettle turns on even when empty. Is it possible to check the water level before switching on?

This kettle does not have a water level sensor. It has thermal relay protection. If you turn on the empty kettle, the protection will turn off the kettle.
