One item in particular, the Animal Glove (Tierhandschuhe in the translation), requires an extra set of brackets because it is a plural word, and plural words have different endings in dative and accusative cases. This wasn't necessary before, but is now, since I rewrote the "character equips item" and "character can't equip item" messages to use the dative case.
The () brackets would still work as usual, though, being used by both <dat> and <acc>. As for brackets to use, perhaps either ‹›, ⦅⦆ or ⟨⟩.
As an addendum, if this issue gets implemented, then a special article token may need to be implemented that doesn't output any articles under normal circumstances, but will use the definite feminine set of articles if a line is set to force definite articles.
