Next release of QJS? (Support on Kickstarter!) #35

Open maximelebreton opened 5 years ago

Hello everybody, I'm sorry for this long silence, I was (and still) very busy with my freelance work.

First, QJS is not dead!

Contrariwise, I was thinking about the announcement of a future release, with big new features, and how to find the time to work on it

So i decided to try a crowdfunding campaign, and hope this will allow me to do this next version!

Next release in few words:

If you're interested, i've just published it yesterday on Kickstarter.

=> Support next release of QJS on Kickstarter

until January 24, 2019

If you have a feature suggestion, don't hesitate, submit a new issue!

Tiny crowdfunding campaign Ad

During this campaign period, you'll notice a tiny and discret scrolling self-promotion on the QJS button, at launching, and on first QJS session click, so I hope it does not bother you.
This will be removed after January 24, 2019. image

Someone already email me to tell me that this tiny campaign Ad is unacceptable and that he immediately uninstalled QJS. I understand this point of view, but I have to say this: QJS has 250 000 users. I had many very interesting buy-back offers, or Ad offers. I always refused them to protect QJS users. Today, I try an approach to live from my work without selling users data. And the only clean way to do this (as I know) is a crowdfunding campaign. So if this temporary tiny-self-crowdfunding-campaign-ad is still too much for you, QJS is open source, you can fork it and make your own version.

How to help?

You can support me on Kickstarter with money, a comment, or both! And spread the word!

Thank you

I will start a fork if it gets too annoying! thank you.

The flashing icon is very annoying. Honestly, I'm so annoyed that I'm tempted to uninstall and/or fork rather than deal with that crap.

Please allow us to disable the flashing.

Right click Hide in Chromium menu until it's over.

Sorry guys, i've made a mistake in 1.4.8, the flashing icon should appear only one time per hour for the last 36 hours, and I just realized that this is not the case, so it's fixed in 1.4.9, deployment is in progress.

I did not imagine that this temporary and tiny ad (20 x 12 pixels...) for the crowdfunding campaign of a potential next release can be so annoying...

A quarter of the messages I received, instead of support, were critical messages

I am very surprised to see the level of tolerance of some users, close to zero.

But I can understand the disagreement, so I've updated with 1.4.10, and now you can disable it in the contextual menu.

If you cannot imagine that an icon which flashes red roughly once every few seconds is not annoying, then I fear for your imagination. It was basically a blinking red light in the corner of my eye, constantly distracting me from the thing I was reading while browsing.

To be clear: I have no issue with some sort of notification window or pop-up which comes up ONCE and is easily dismiss-able. I don't have a problem with a crowd funding page for the work you've put in. What I DO have a problem with is something which substantially interferes with the usage of my browser.
