Using Internet connections with a low bandwidth or with a high packet loss
often results in poor
connection quality when using SIP (e.g. lost audio fragments). In such a
situation, switching to a
codec that uses high compression (e.g. GSM) can in my experience greatly
improve the connection
quality.
Others have suggested a way to specify the codec priority for a SIP connection,
which could be used
in this case:

However, as this use case depends on the network connection instead of the SIP
server, I suggest
having a "low-bandwidth mode" that could be enabled in such cases and that
would reconnect all
SIP connections using the GSM codec.
I suggest having this available as a menu item in the main menu.
