Direct support for Google Voice using Jingle (like Groove IP) #437

The Android app "Groove IP" makes and receives google voice calls by connecting
directly to Google.

This eliminates the need for a paid SIP provider for all US users (and many
non-US users are able to get Google Voice accounts as well).

I believe it's done using XMPP/Jingle. This guy has done it, and I believe
there is support in Jitsi as well, so there are examples of working code:
https://simonics.com/blog/

It's probably significant work, but it would make the application instantly
usable for many people, with a very simple and easy-to-understand configuration
process.

Many Google voice users hate using the gmail web interface to make and receive
calls, and Google discontinued a desktop version of Google Voice-- even though
there was significant excitement around it-- for somewhat ideological reasons.

Groove IP has over 50,000 downloads even though it's priced at $5.

I am using this solution and it works great. Of course, since it hosted
remotely, I have to use a secondary throw away Google account / phone number.
But either way it works

Yeah, I need this linked to my main Google Voice account, and I'm nervous about
providing a password. Direct support would be better for power users nervous
about security, as well as less sophisticated users who'd be puzzled by the
extra steps.

It's Google's fault for not offering a SIP gateway anymore, but yeah, direct
support would be great.
