Setup the new laptop (this will take about half a day with only a little interaction on your part)

  1. Upgrade to the new OS using system update
  2. download Xcode from the mac store.
  3. Install brew (http://brew.sh/) and use brew to install the unix tools (emacs, python, etc) you need.
