"Other" tab missing from Add OS on Pi 400 #682

After booting into BerryBoot and formatting the SD card, I only get two tabs from which to select an OS at the "Add OS" stage: "Popular" and "Appliances". I'm missing the "Other" tab and thus cannot install anything except the 5 options listed in "Popular". Installing both RPi OS (2020.11, 64-bit) and its Lite version from "Popular" works fine, so I know I have a good WiFi network connection. But what I'm really looking for is some of the other OS's that I currently can't see. (I know I can add them manually but was hoping to avoid this step because I'd like to test several.)

I'm using a Pi 400 and BerryBoot v2.0 (berryboot-20201103-pi4.zip). I wiped the SD card and reinstalled BerryBoot twice, formatting once as ext4 and once as ext4 (no trim/discard)-- same result both times.

Thanks.

Hello. I have the same problem on a RPI4. Have you found a solution?

tmesposito commented 3 years ago

@gaetangaetan Not yet. I haven't spent much time on it since my initial post; I just moved on to a different multi-boot approach.

I have the same problem with missing "other" :(

Hi @tmesposito, @gaetangaetan and @bartoll - the reason there is no Other tab is because berryboot's default repo gets its list of images from the file http://dl.berryboot.com/distro.zsmime and this file only contains information for two groups; those being Popular and Appliances.

The images in the Popular group are (currently):

  1. RPi OS 2020.11 [64-bit]
  2. RPi OS 2020.11 Lite [64-bit]
  3. Ubuntu 20.10 Desktop
  4. Manjaro lxqt 2019.09
  5. OpenSUSE KDE 2019.09

The image under the Appliances group is (currently):

  1. NOC-PS Lite (limited to 25 servers)

I know this doesn't help much but that is the reason why there is no Other tab. I don't own nor control that repo, so I don't know why the Other group was removed (I don't know when it existed either - maybe @maxnet can comment on that). I believe the only way to get other images is to download them manually and install them either from a USB drive, cifs share (I use a cifs share and know it works) or nfs share.

Hello! Have any of you founded how to get the "Others" tab? I have 3 days looking for it.

maxnet commented 2 years ago

I don't know why the Other group was removed

Because the OS'es that were in it haven't been updated for 5 years or so.
