Adding json auto typing #35

Have some stuff left, but this is basically checking and assigning a type to each of our json selections - also making sure that we don't assign two different types to each json selector

this is a monster PR––I didn't find any obvious errors just skimming thru, and as long as the tests pass, I think we should merge in order to get us all on the same page/moving forward AFAP (as fast as possible)
