Thanks @mwinter-osr ! This relates to an issue discussed recently with @mavridis92 on the fact that the chosen fixed URL (local.mazizone.eu) looks like an Internet address (different than the custom URL, whose default name is again a valid Internet URL, portal.mazizone.eu, but could be changed to a non-valid one) and people get confused on whether these services run truly on the local network or online.
The confusion is even bigger when the MAZI Zone is online.
Using the static IP would resolve much of this confusion but will make the whole thing look more "geeky" :-)
Personally, I would like the option to allow the administrator to make a choice around this issue. Would this be feasible technically?
The main reason behind having a domain instead of an IP is to look more user-friendly instead of "geeky" as Panos says.
Is there an issue around using a 'real' top level domain name (.eu)? if this was changed to a non-existent TLD would this help (e.g. ".mazi")? (question for technical team)
I also agree that local admins should get the choice of IP address or hostname.
The MAZI network manager needs to communicate the status of the network interface connections and present options for network numbering, naming and routing in different conditions.
Currently the portal page is referred under the hostname
local.mazizone.eu
. This causes issues for everyone with static DNS configured (ie Google DNS). The portal should use the host10.0.0.1
(IP address instead of name) to avoid this issue.
