ok, I am not joking when i say @mbhall88 , unfortunately, you need to email publishers and get permission to reproduce their figures.eg fig 1.1. If you tell them its for a PhD thesis which won't go into general circulation, they will for sure say yes, but you need to do it and show in the thesis that you have done it.
Great work @mbhall88 chapter1-first-draft-zam-comments.pdf

Bugger!! Ok, luckily Springer Nature have an online portal to do this for each article. It's tedious, but won't need to send 100 emails.
@iqbal-lab - Page 2; in response to the sentence "Transduction is mediated by bacteriophages (phages) - viruses which infect bacteria and are the most abundant organism on Earth." You commented
you can only say this if you use the word cellular, otherwise viruses get in the way
What do you mean by this? Bacteriophages are viruses... Not sure what cellular has to do with this statement?
Bacteria aren't the most abundant organism on the planet. Viruses are. But bacteria ARE the most abundant cellular organisms on the planet
Oh, I was saying that bacteriophages are the most abundant... I thought that seemed pretty clear from the sentence? Obviously not?
Doh. Yes it makes sense now, sorry. It's fine, my mistake,
@iqbal-lab in case you haven't looked at this yet, here is a copy after some changes I made from comments from Leah too. All good if you've already started reviewing the previous PDF. thesis.pdf
