new long-press function in app drawer #216

I have two suggestions or feature requests. I would separate the feature
requests, but my ideas started with issue 15 and the two features work together
to address it and other issues.

Feature 1: From within the app drawer, change the default long-press of an app
to give app-specific options

Opt. 1) multiple options: Edit Groups (see option 2), Shortcut... (on
homescreen, action buttons, or dockbar), uninstall, etc., cancel.

Opt. 2) only modify an app's groups. Pop up the Groups list with checkboxes to
make your selection, and then cancel/accepting the changes, you return to the
app drawer.

Feature 2, New, default 'Uncategorized' group: Newly installed apps are
defaulted to a new, built-in Uncategorized/etc/left-overs apps group. As well,
apps removed from all other groups end up here.

Issues addressed:

1) Faster grouping. Following option 2 description, add apps to multiple
groups at the same time. Additionally Feature 2 gives faster access to
uncategorized apps. For me, this leads right into issue 15.

2) issue 15, "new app grouping." Newly installed apps should not appear in all
groups. An Uncategorized app filter provides a way to gather newly installed
and hard-to-categorize apps (difficult, given the limited number of allowed
groups) for sorting. Long-press an app, make your selection, and return to the
remaining unsorted apps. If you remove an old app from it's only group, it
would be nice to see it appear Uncategorized so that it could be resorted in
this manner.

3) issue 48, "Make adding multiple dockbar icons less complicated." Long-press
an app in drawer and choose "Shortcut...." A popup dialog allows you to select
homescreen, action buttons (SLAB, LAB, RAB, SRAB), or dockbar. Placement on
the homescreens and dockbar sorting would need to be manual from there.

4) issue 37, "Option to "Lock" shortcuts on the home screen & app drawer." Not
exactly a solution, I admit. The way I interpret that issue is that people
accidently long-press an app when attempting to scroll apps. Currently, the
default app drawer behavior wants to drop a shortcut on your homescreen and you
are kicked out of the app drawer. *curses* If the default long-press pops up
an app-related options dialog, then the person who didn't mean to long-press
could simply cancel or hit the back soft key to sort of escape from that
dialog, and return to the app drawer, instead of the homescreen.

Seems like 2 features to me, maybe a lot more in coding? I'm a system analyst,
not a programmer. ;p Sorry for the length, just some ideas. Damn I hope that
makes sense.

From what I understand, Issue 48 is more related to 'trashing' icons. Where the
user attempts to remove an icon and places it in the Action Buttons instead.

In issue 37 (sorry, I know I linked half the posted issues), the OP describes,
"when the drawer is open, when I try to scroll horizontally, I always end up
dragging an icon to the homescreen instead of scrolling" which is what I
identify with.

Most of the comments agree with OP suggestion for various reasons, so I know my
suggestion doesn't negate the feature request for locking icons. That's also a
valuable option, but my feature request addresses accidentally dragging icons
to desktop for me.

Hmm, rereading 48, I think I see what you meant there. I thought you were
referring to iss37 comments 3, 4, & 9.

I've never had an issue with dragging items onto the dockbar (secondary, swipe
up to reveal). I do agree it could be faster. I like the idea of having an
app-specific menu from the app drawer to send a shortcut to the dockbar (or
action buttons or home screen). Do that for each app you want there, then sort
them around on the dockbar manually.

I like a13x.ch4ndr4's suggestion too. He says swipe the dockbar into view and
then have a way to open the app drawer from the dockbar to be able to drag
icons straight into position.

I think issue 10 actually discusses adding custom shortcuts/functions to the
dockbar, which is an awesome idea (note it's the most starred item here) and an
icon to launch the app drawer is a perfect example.

okay, I see issue 186, Add Activity for Custom Shortcuts: Open App Drawer, has
already been requested, specifically for a custom shortcut to the app drawer.
