Wish: low-energy hadronic models #17

Is there a plan to include low-energy hadronic models to choose from as well? I know there aren't so many compared to high-energy models (at least when I look at what is available in CORSIKA 7), but still, would be useful to compare fluka, gheisha and urqmd.

afedynitch commented 4 years ago

Yeah, it's on higher priority TODO. FLUKA had license issues in the past. I have the interfaces to UrQMD 3.4. That's it. GHEISHA is wrong and should not be used, neither in CORSIKA nor anywhere else. For inclusive muons and neutrinos there is not much of an effect to expect, in particular for underground/-water labs.

Well, UrQMD seems to be the best choice right now. Are there any other LE models available out there that your're aware of?

I think there might still be some effect for detectors like DeepCore or ORCA, but I don't know exactly how big (that's why I ask ;) )

I think FLUKA is the best choice. Apart from that there are none at this moment. For muons the effect in underwater detectors is much much smaller then the effort. For inclusive neutrino fluxes in ORCA this is may be relevant for fluxes below 10 GeV. I don't know about the size of the impact. But there are other and better ways to address it. We are working on it. Until ORCA fully starts and gains statistics these will become available within MCEq.
