Having same problem. Mac Pro 3,1 2008. OS X 10.6.4. Tried different Soundflower
versions -- all fail to install. Even though, I had a 1.4.1 version installed
before. Deleted it, but still no effect. Even 1.4.1 won't install anymore.
Here's the log file from Console (attached).

I had the same problem. The resolved the issue by compiling the source. You
will need Xcode installed. I attached the log. Worked like a charm.

I get the same results. It would appear to install correctly but Soundflowerbed
reports "Soundflower is not installed" and I don't have the soundflower audio
devices.
HOWEVER, if I use screenflick to install Soundflower then it installs/works
just fine.

I believe this issue should be resolved in the just-released version 1.6
release candidate. If you download that, run the uninstall script to be
certain that all potentially conflicting remnants are cleared, and then run the
new installer, it should work.
Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

I was so excited to see this post since I have been scrambling all day to
understand what is wrong. However, unfortunately this didn't fix the problem
for me. I am running OS X 10.7.3 and my symptom is that Soundflowerbed in the
menu bar (still) shows that "Soundflower is Not installed." I downloaded RC
1.6, used the uninstall script from that download, restarted my machine,
installed 1.6, started Soundflowerbed from the folder in apps & then I got the
error message. Checked the version and it shows 1.6.0. LineIn still does not
list Soundflower (2ch) either.

Okay -- more fixes in the just uploaded 1.6.1 installer. This should at least
help with comment #18.
Regarding comment #16, it is not clear what is wrong. Restarting after
installing Soundflower might help (as opposed to restarting before, if I
understood you correctly). Maybe there are some error messages in the system
console that would help?

Fixed Error "Soundflower is not installed".
After installing from the 1.6.1 installer package, I got the same error note
when launching Soundflowerbed - "Soundflower is not installed". Navigated to
/System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext and changed the permissions on
wheel to "Read Only" instead of "Read & Write". I then restarted my machine
and everything was fixed. Seems to work fine now.

Since my last posts (16&17) I have some more info. I updated the 10.7.3 Lion
installation with sound flower 1.6.1 with the same results. I then tried
changing permissions & restarting as others have but this did not help me. In
parallel, and for other reasons, I upgraded my mini from Snow Leopard to Lion
10.7.3 without migrating to 1.6.1, instead staying with 1.6.0 and to my
surprise the problem was resolved for that installation. I checked permissions
(which I had not done prior) and noticed that wheel is read only in that (now)
working configuration. The permissions is clearly not the complete story. If
I can provide more useful information to help debug this problem please advise.
Thanks, Paul
P.S. You mentioned system console output. I don't think this is helpful but
here it is for launching and closing SoundFlowerBed a couple of times

sudo chmod -R g-w /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext
then,

For all those who have had the permissions problem (i.e. needed to change the
"wheel" group to non-writable), I've just uploaded a version 1.6.2 which I
believe should solve that problem.

Regarding comment #24 and #26: Thanks for the console log lines. The second
batch holds the answer:
Kext com.Cycling74.driver.Soundflower class SoundflowerEngine is a
duplicate;kext com.senstic.driver.PocketAudioDevice already has a class by that
name.
This basically says that "com.senstic.driver.PocketAudioDevice" has Soundflower
functions included inside of it. They would have to rename the functions in
order for their product to not conflict with Soundflower.
A quick search of the Senstic website doesn't make it obvious that they are
crediting Soundflower or providing the source code for their application, which
they are required to do with the GNU GPL license of Soundflower. I sure hope
they are not in violation of the license terms!

Indeed, installed 1.6.2 from the website this afternoon and suffered the same
symptoms until following the instructions in #33, and now it works like a
charm. Is this fixed by the most recent github commit

Yes, it should be fixed in that Github commit.
That commit is present in the Github download (
https://github.com/tap/Soundflower/downloads ) and should also be present in
the GoogleCode downloads, but maybe that download was not updated correctly?
The two downloads should be identical.

I can't get it to work with any of these suggestions or either download. I am
running 10.7.3 and I think it stopped working after the most recent OSX
software update, but I am not sure.
Been uninstalling, reinstalling, restarting, kextloading all to no avail. Still
get "Soundflower Is Not Installed!!" in Soundflowerbed and no Soundflower
option in System Preferences or in the application folder. When installing
Soundflower it seems to skip the Destination Select portion of the installer.
Let me know if I can provide anything to help figure this out. I would love to
get this working as I use Splashtop Streamer all of the time.
Thanks!
