How to have research meetings that are phone calls

VCO/Conference call situations Mel does not know how to handle:

1) Mel calls hearie 2) Mel and X call hearie

Tried experimental conversation with Lindsey Nelson on the other end of the phone, and Brittany terping. Notes:

• pause after thing to wait for mel to signal she gets it (mel should make auditory rather than visual signal)
• Ask the hearie to talk in bullet points and pause for understanding, being mindful of the lag
• Both sides need ability to pause the conversation or bring up questions about comms dynamics in addition to talking about the topic at hand
• May need to ask hearie to pause for longer understanding pauses
• Ask interpreter to voice the interruption thing (ask Robin / fill her in on setup)
• Mel should voice visual actions more frequently. (practice this.) Strategy -- read what I’m typing out loud
• Mel talks a lot as a way of holding space to think and not having to listen to a conversation; she should just say “hang on, I need to think”
