Site map generator, after install, doesn't open

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. After Installation
2. Open Sitemapgenerator
3.  http://localhost:8181/index.html  

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Does not open, produces error "Diagnose Connection Problems"

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows XP Professional

Please provide any additional information below.
How do I open the generator, what is the correct URL

same problem here, doesn't open http://localhost:8181/index.html, Windows XP, 
and my 
laptop windows vista. any idea? thanks

I ve got the same problem. Initialy the application ask for internet 
information 
service installation, which i did but the problem remain the same i have 
windows XP 
with service pack 3.

I have got the same problem and then found error in IIS (administrative tools) 
that
google sitemap service is not running. i tried my best and checked services 
console
too, if google sitemap service is runing in background or not, and found it 
running.
Then i disabled my main default websites in IIS console and started google map
service and it started. Then i tried to run both services at same time but 
failed. I
though i might need to enable port 8181 in windows firewall and even adding into
exception, results remained same.

Anybody got any clue? Both services are not running at same time. I am using 
windows
XP Professional with SP3.

Solution:  go to IIS Google Sitemap Generator Admin Console Properties, click 
on the
Directory Security tab, edit the Authentication and access control.  Leave 
Enable
anonymous access checked but also check the "Integrated Windows 
authentication". 
Click on OK.  Go back to Website, refresh, and enter the userid and password 
for the
server admin.

I had the same problem using Ubuntu.  For me the solution was to give the 
program 
its own IP.   I spend a bunch of time getting https to work which did no good 
at 
all.  It isn't needed on this version. Apparently there was a confict with one 
of 
the default sites.  Still trying to figure out which one, but as soon as I gave 
it 
its own IP it came right up on port 8181.  I hope this helps someone else out, 
I 
wasted a ton of time chasing problems that weren't there and there isn't much 
help 
when it does nothing at all.  There was nothing in any log to give me a clue 
either.

The problem seems to be that IIS when installed on windows XP only allows the 
creation of one website (default). You can only create virtual directories. 
The way that the Google Site Map Generator works is that it creates a separate 
site running on Port 8181. You have to stop the default site to be able to 
start the google site map generator site at least get the admin console to 
load. 
I have been able to get the admin site to load this way (and it won't load in 
Firefox for some reason). However, since localhost (port 80) is not running, it 
doesn't seem to be generating anything. 
anyone else has figured out a solution?
