This is impacting some of our applicaions as client expectations now include
unique visitors which makes this a manual process to prepare these reports.

We would also really appreciate seeing this added to the API so we can use
something more meaningful for product page conversion calculation. I've found
that ga::visitors seems problematic at best, sometimes returning results that
are obviously inaccurate. It would seem that the presence of this metric in the
web interface under Custom Reports would mean it shouldn't be too difficult to
add to the API?

Seems to be fixed in the last changelog:

visitors across the date range and now supports more dimension and metric
combinations."
