Cannot load a single layer from within a service in the new template when working with it as a standalone application, outside of ArcGIS Online. The entire service must be added. For example, http://mdimap.us/ArcGIS/rest/services/Environment/MD.State.ProtectedLandsDNRPrograms/MapServer/0. I am able to do it in other templates in ArcGIS Online though.
