attendees cannot be added to events via iCal

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create an event
2. Add attendees besides yourself

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
To send out invitation mails to the attendees

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Google calendar on Mac OS X 10.5.4

Please provide any additional information below.
Seems ical always states <invalid:nomail> when adding guests, yet the mail is 
available in both 
mac address book and google address book.

Attendees can be added and notified without problems from calender.google.com
