This is smart: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditTrophies/comments/3cfep4/6_july_2015/ Reddit incentivizes the community each day by badging "top contributors" which they define. It's a smart way to both recognize top performers and get them to continue posting.

I'm thinking about this in terms of the incentives or hooks we could provide to get people to return to the site. If the site is largely information and static, it will have a small audience. If the site provides a curated - loose term - guide to audio published by public media, it's a different story and there will be repeat visitors. This can be achieved with something like a newsletter - I really like the This.cm one, which captures five stories and sends them out each day with a personalized header. I'm wondering if we could string something together -- at the end, but cognizant of it - with Zapier and Mailchimp. Other thoughts welcome. Not dreadfully important, but something to think about as we contemplate an MVP and growing an audience - and making sure the UX is easy to understand and use.

@thequbit

Are you familiar with Mozilla OpenBadges? I've been wanting to integrate this into a project for a while now. I think this is a really slick way to give 'trophies' for contributing to a community. It is also all open, and has a MASSIVE ecosystem behind it ( and integration is mad simple ).

Yes! And I know those people! Let's talk about that! :+1:

We should have a design conversation about what contributions to incentive and how to make it approachable to new users. I think this is a good idea, just want to make sure it doesn't have unintended ripple effects on the onboarding process.

Let's do this soon. We don't want to build anything without considering this.

Let's set up a brainstorming session where we can go nuts on the stickiness problem. On Aug 4, 2015 8:41 AM, "Melody Kramer" notifications@github.com wrote:

I'm back from vacation Friday. Any time next week works for me.

This question still seems wide open to me, although I will say that it seems unlikely that we'll be able to go nuts on this problem in the MVP. Probably not a high priority right now.

I really like rewarding people for doing good/cool/productive/etc. stuff, and I think badges/trophies is a solid ( and kind of proven ) way to do that for an on-line community.

We should keep this on the table for stretch and "next round" goals I think.
