Building a simple DMX Interface :: Medusalix' Blog

When I first joined the sound-and-lights team at my school, I was quite impressed by the amount of technical equipment they had. While I enjoyed sitting in front of the mixing console and setting up all the microphones and speakers, it was always the lights which caught my attention. We had twelve theater lights mounted on two crossbars with different colored filters in front of them. All those lights were powered by a small 24 channel DMX controller.

hey, i know its been over a Year since you shared this neat little Project, but i was wondering, if it would also be possible to add an input to this so that i can use my hardware-controller too with say DMXcontrol or something? very kind regards if you still read this

@Irgendwer008 Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the blog post. I believe it should be possible to add a DMX input to the interface by using an additional RS485 driver to receive DMX data. You would connect the RO pin from the MAX485 to the RX pin of the FT232 and the RE and DE pins from the MAX485 to ground. Both DMXControl and QLC+ should have a DMX input plugin for the FT232 chip.
