A student adds a scaffold (with the rectangular field outline) and starts to type. Occasionally student will want to delete what she wrote, pressing the backspace. First the scaffold disappears, then the cursor jumps outside the rectangle, next the rectangle shrinks but is still there and one has to move the cursor below the rectangle to get rid of it and start over.
