"Connecting the dots" is confusing to represent a person's note-productivity over time! I imagine there is some type of automatic, histogram-like, bin-size calculations going on and that a single point is placed in the middle of the bin, then lines are drawn to connect these bins-points. Looking at the example "Daily activity timeline shown below, I'd guess bin-size to be about 2 days, that's fine, and using a dot to show the mid-point in that time is fine, but there should be no connecting-line between these points -- it has very little (if any) meaning to the student or teacher and is more likely to give misconceptions.
I recommend instead using a regular bar-like histogram. While the auto bin-size calculator is fine, consider also having a tick-box on the side where one can select the size of bin such as "Hour" or "Day" Or "x days" (where one fills in the blank). Tools like this not only help make the graph more meaningful, but it also teaches for example the idea of histograms -- important for students and teachers alike!
