Titles are written at the start of a message, yet, for at least some of us, we don't feel like writing/are unable to write the topic before we have express/developed our idea in writing--it's like putting the carriage before the horse.
Instead, I recommend we put the "title" field below the body text field and call it "summary" (and provide embedded guidance for the author to make it descriptive and short).
It would be informative to have analytics on how often a note is attempted to be saved w/out a title! I'd be embarrassed to admit how many times I've done this!
