Does anybody know something about this:

Is it possible to use the android virtual keyboard in linux? Which manager to use for that: XTerm LXDE Xfce GNOME KDE ...?

If android keyboard is not available in chroot linux: Is there a useable and modern linux virtual keyboard?

I tried xvkbd and matchbox-keyboard, both are either not working or are very ugly and not really usable.

Background for this question: I want to use a large touchscreen with a Java Swing jar app and an android mini pc stick. Thanks to LinuxDeploy all is working so far only the virtual keyboard is not available.

Android virtual keyboard works fine in GNU/Linux for any desktop environment. Use VNC client for this.

I am sorry not for me so far: I am running a Java swing/awt jar application. This is all the chroot linux should do, running this jar (androids java is not able to handle swing/awt). In future with a touchscreen, and now for testing with just a mouse, no keyboard. All is perfect so far. But there is no virtual keyboard poping up when touch/clicking an input field: So far there is only a mouse, no touchscreen available. I can enforce popping up the android keyboard by panning the screen, the virtual android keyboard icon becomes visible on bottom of the screen then and only after this panning it is possible to use the android keyboard: But this is to complicated for my unexperienced endusers. And the android keyboard is not moveable or minimizable: Running a jar with swing/awt is not the thing this android keyboard is made for.

You are not understanding meefik's answer. The keyboard solution you will be using has nothing to do with the version of Linux or the window manager or the Java swing program -- it is your choice of VNC client Android app and your choice of Android keyboard service app that will determine what keystrokes reach Linux.

The easiest way to use the tv dongle is to plug a wired keyboard/mouse combo to a usb hub plugged into the otg that you have your mouse in now, or, use a combo wireless like the Logitech K400. To use an Android virtual keyboard, you must learn how to bring it up in the VNC client app you are using.
