thanks a lot!! i have had many problems with the internet conexion and about the armel in stated of armhf (arm11, armV6) that dont work like that.... the rest, simply great.

Woxter 60 R tablet (ARM11, 160mb, extSD 32GB- 25GB for SO, 1GHz. instaled at extSD like a HD (not a imagen) as ext2.

Now, updating and instaling the kali-linux-full pakets. Trying to add a swap partition of 4GB.

thank you very much!!!

Hello Fritsbie I took a college theory course in Linux 15 years ago. I want to install for me and one for my aunt. I want to make it as easy as possible for her so and update themes that make it look more like windows PC. I assume you can do this on Kali as you can (as I read) on Ubuntu. Here are my questions. The nexus player uses an Intel Atom Quad process with on 1GiG of ram. Which architecture do I use AMD64 or I386? I going to use a 16 gig usb stick I want to create a partition one will be for linux OS for 12 gigs and the other I want to use to be able to install more apps on the android OS. Which do I which choose file, partition since I am placing in a partition on the usb drive or custom? does it look like a desktop although it is running from VNC? Is it able to handle Flash on websites because quite honestly companies love blocking android so to the web does it appear to it as a desktop or not? You guidance is well appreciated.

ChayDX commented 9 years ago

okay so i tied doing mulitiple partitions on my sd card and only the fat32 partition appears, the ext2 partitions doesnt even mount or show up under mount points. if i do the whole sd card one partiotion it installs fine. i follow all your steps i even got all the kali tools installed but i miffed something and had to start over. now after i install the image and go to install anything it tells me i dont have enough space in /var/cache/apt/archives. i even tried moving said directory to the sdcard and associating it there and still no space even though i still have 26 GB left on sd card. this is becoming a pain any input would be greatly appreciated. and btw i dont think it should be closed if people are still commenting they are having issues even while following this step for step

hs35912 commented 9 years ago

First of all thanks for this guide as rightfully mentioned good detailed tutorial for Linux Deploy is rather rare. I am having the same issue as ChayDX.

See this image.. and you will see the block devices at the bottom. The ext2 Linux partition is not mounted only FAT32 partition is mounted. So the question is how can I mount ext2 partition so that I can use it Linux Deploy to install Kali2, please?

Here is the details of my phone. screenshot_2015-08-31-10-10-29

ChayDX commented 9 years ago

the only thing i can think of, which im trying right now so i will let you know if it does work, is /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 under available partitions. That directory is actively pointing directly to the ext2 partition so i will try using that directory and also setting that as a mount point under the settings. ill return later with some more information EDIT This doesnt work for some reason it reads the size of the fat partition and throws me an error creating the img 512 mb. here is what i did to get around it. download Link2SD from the app store and set up a mount script for the second partition and boom after a reboot go into Link2SD again and check the storage to see its mounted. next time you run a status check in linux deploy a new directory called /data/sdext2 should be listed under available mount points.

hs35912 commented 9 years ago

@ChayDX thanks for the tip re: Link2SD I would like to know if you were able to successfully install Kali with this technique. Thanks

flamacore commented 9 years ago

@Fritsbie First; amazing! I finally could get kali on my htc desire S! Yay! :) Thank you.

Second; to everyone: i have issues with my kali too. wlan0 shows up on iw but the monitoring mode can't be turned on. Just shows null. And can't use bluethooth either. Any suggestions on these? I know it heavily depends on the device but still there can be general solutions that i could at least try :) Modem seems to be ieee80211 type but still, shows up in iwconfig. Even shows up partly in airmon-ng too. Maybe patch the modem? kernel? or maybe a package attempting to fix this? or should i consider toying with an OTG cable to try connecting my tp-link wn722 wifi dongle to the phone? it works perfectly well on desktop kali..

So anything you guys can suggest?

Evanito commented 9 years ago

@flamacore Hey, it is a known limitation (in current iterations) of Kali Linux and NetHunter (Suggest you look into) that integrated wireless adapters cant be used in Linux. I have an OTG Cable already and the exact same highly recommended wireless adapter in the mail. If you want to use wifite or similar wireless auditing software, I suggest you use the same.

flamacore commented 9 years ago

@Evanito Hey there. Thanks a lot for the answer. So i guess i'll go get a good quality OTG cable then :) anything i should know before-hand?

Evanito commented 9 years ago

@flamacore Yeah, opt for a Y OTG cable, one where you can charge your device while using the adapter. It is also a known issue on small devices that the adapter can pull too much power (when sending deauths) and crash the tablet. It is also useful just to extend usable time on battery power.

goose2019 commented 8 years ago

Simply reset the device. I had the same problem..

indykoning commented 8 years ago

in what way do you mean reset? Factory reset, rebooting, or something else?

goose2019 commented 8 years ago

I think some of the sources are down, I installed few of the program's manually , What do you see on the device ? Is Kali running at all ?

goose2019 commented 8 years ago

Simple reboot ..

Nice guide, exactly what was needed! Anyone able to help with 'mounting to android resources'? I want to be able to transfer files etc between my android system and linux system, and I have enabled the Custom Mount and selected the mount point, however after reconfiguring, I cannot see anyway to copy files between android and linux - any ideas?

c0MpL3X3nt1Ty commented 8 years ago

@meefik thanks for your time put into these tools friend, have got kali to run on a motorola moto g and a sam galaxy note 2 on the internal storage not the ext tho... i love the tools in kali in the palm of your hand, discrete and mobile. one question sir, so, say you have followed the instructions up to Installation Type: File... next step choose folder to Ext2 partition, my case its /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 (same as hs35912) is what it states when i check status, so it should be /sources/extSdCard/* ? update... completed without prior partitioning, dunno why i thought i had to partition.. ...still would like more info on partitioning if you have a moment..

ghost commented 8 years ago

I got it to install, but when I installed my metapackages (wireless) it keeps tripping up on "my-sql-server-5.5", and starting up the server. Any ideas?

Also, do not set it up to have you be the root user. I had been doing that and it wouldn't work, but when I changed it, it worked. (Was messed up because I choose the wrong language, gotta love stuff like that)

majid00 commented 8 years ago

My device is rooted and havent problem about thet

ghost commented 8 years ago

Fixed it by doing "sudo apt-get purge mysql-sever-5.5 mysql-server" then reinstalling the metapackages

majid00 commented 8 years ago

Where do I enter this command? Kali doesnt installed yet😓😓😓😓

ghost commented 8 years ago

Setup the right configuration settings, click install. Then to install the other stuff and get things working, go to settings and you will see shell command or something like that. Copy that command into a terminal, and the do the commands in there. "Sudo apt-get update" and install the right metapackages with "sudo apt-get install (package name)". The package descriptions can be found here: https://www.kali.org/news/kali-linux-metapackages/

ElStonedo commented 8 years ago

I used Aparted off of Google Play. Tried getting Linuxdeploy to differentiate between the fat 32 "Windows 95" and the ext2 partition. What I noticed in mine was it was /dev/block/mmcblk0 that started the tree off for /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 and /dev/block/mmcblk1p2. It would just fail to mount and find the partition. So I just formatted the whole SDCard, like the phone say it is okay to remove it. But everything installed correctly. On a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 5.0.1

Tried the recommended partition program but it just come with too much junk and would not function correctly.

ElStonedo commented 8 years ago

Oh, I did a directory install to /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 once the card was formatted correctly.

Hi, I'm a looser ... : I selected Kali components, I started Kali container with the "Start" button... so far, so good ...

ElStonedo commented 8 years ago

Acid, I think it is on a person by person basis. I had to format my whole SD card to get the system to mount correctly. Then because of the inability to click OK on the MYSQL install I was then forced to click the options to install the Kali parts in Linux Deploy. Still running bare bones, but it does have WireShark. Just need to adjust my resolution some. Some people had troubles with their wireless cards on their phones mounting correctly. Given it is a new area of development there will be lots of situation based bugs.

Spunk, you want to use your internal memory for the installation? Not an SD card? As for the release file issue I would update Linux Deploy. Do not use some random API download for it as it is available on GooglePlay store.

ElStonedo commented 8 years ago

Also if you run a Samsung device you are going to run into SElinux issues. I was having trouble gaining access to certain kernel functions. Switching to SuperSU seems to resolve some issues. If anyone has more information on SElinux workaround on stock kernel let me know. I am Verizon S4 OF1 So I have bootloader issues...

Problem : wont install. specific : Partitions RCA Vicking Pro tablet 32g sd card formated as follow ( part 1 :ext2 1106mb part 2 :ext2 19836mb part 3 :swap 2215mb part 4 :fat32 8758mb ) using AParted from google store using es files explorer, sdcard is sdcard1

so... in linuxdeploy installation type : Partition or file? I would assume partition ... installation path : wtf (I dont want to use storage 0.... everything on sdcard1) but what is the freaking path ? I'm used to Linux, android is new to me. found : /storage/sdcard1 ... but lots of errors see the screenshot at the bottom. Graphics subsystem : vnc, X Server(which would be nice), Framebuffer ?

Chapter 2 "The error spank_me_please" / ... Mount : mounting blablabla on blewblew failed: no such file or directory

I have a specific goal. Using what I have done to sdcard1.

is it possible? Thanks and regards Steph

... Well... slowly im getting pretty angry. Since 4 days i tried so many things, but it wont work as expected on my galaxy tab s2. Somehow nothing works correctly. GNOME -> VNC ->Something went wrong. LXDE seems to be the only thing that works without any graphic bugs.

Sudo -> permission denied. (0, -1, -1) su -> password needed.

I chrooted to root bash and tried to get somehow access with ssh keys and modified sshd_config. All settings are so contradictory. In sudoers, my user has all rights, but at the same time it has no rights. Changing roots passwd is not working because of no rights to change roots password as root. -.- Trying ssh as root (with ssh key) still asks me for password. (sshd_config -> permitrootlogin without-password) ssh service is already restarted.

sudo apt-get install kali-linux-full or apt-get upgrade-> cant install cause of missing packages. Those packages cant be installed due to serveral errors i cant understand.

what is that thing with selinux enforcing/passive or whatever? i dont understand what this should do, or where i see what status i got. When i look in linux-deploy -> status ... (selinux = yes) ?

Changing the User to "root" in the installation config, doesn't let me even login, cause of wrong password.
