Kali linux ,mate desktop environment, vnc , gray screen with x cursor #651

I am having somewhat different issue. I am able to install Kali Linux through Linux deploy on my 12 GB partition, however I can't access it through terminal or vnc or x11.

On vnc with 2.0.0 beta 2 , it says "mesg:ttyname failed, invalid argument"

With 2.0.0-215 version it sometimes says that ,sometimes doesn't but results are the same

On play store 2.0.0 version, install fails ,as it refuse to download some 7 or 8 packages , and installs of previous veraion (beta and release, both github version ) don't give any error, but results are 1 of the following -

1.gray screen with x cursor or 2.a square with x cursor or 3.recycle bin and 1 other icon in that square

And yes,I agree with another user who said it ; lxde is the only environment in which Linux deploy works without any graphical glitch.its not that lxde install didn't have any problems just that it magically sorted out on itself pretty sooner.

But gnome and mate never worked ,mate desktop worked magically once on 1.5.6 version(that too without touching any .vnc , xtartup files ) but so far not anymore, on any version of mate desktop

I managed to run xserver xsdl after follwing your answer to different issues, but keyboard. Doesn't appear in xsdl

I wanted to use gnome, but it was said that gnome is no longer supported,I thought ok,so down with mate.but it too give the same issues,I don't. Want to use lxde or xfce.if mate is supported it should work right?please guide me for a fix.

Same for me. I will add that on LXDE Qt apps doesn't start, and gtk menu doesn't display. For example wireshark doesn't launch and wireshark-gtk run but cannot display any menu.

Yeah i agree Network manager and one other app,i cant remember which .just doesnt open up.

On the other hand,i was trying this stuff on kitkat and marshmallow, aosp/cyanogen roms , i decided to give lollipop 5.1.1 aosp rom a try and now i am able to use xserver xsdl on linux deploy, however I'm keeping this issue open,as it was for vnc problems, which still persists,i can see trash,my computer stacked on top of each other but the rest are gray screen and x cursor.

one more thing ,It might be offtopic, but i guess at this time, i cant be sure about anything

network manager has to be started everytime i boot up linux deploy, which is ok,but after restarting manager service , it shows "Wireless network Device not managed" "Wireless network Device not managed" Vpn connections ->

Right clicking on network manager shows "enable networking" field checked but grayed out I have changedthe lline in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf managed="false" to "true" and added auto lo iface lo inet loopback to /etc/network/interfaces.

Rigardless of network manger's state , internet could be used if wifi in android is connected.but i want wifi to be managed from inside chroot.the reason is simple,i want to use my external usb adapters to be able to be used inside chroot.

.after a month of tinkering i was able to turn monitor mode on on my external adapters,airmon-ng and wifite work accordingly, but when i cant connect to wireless networks inside chroot,it sort of defeats the whole purpose.

The primary reason i started using linux deploy was to be able to that in some full fledged desktop environments like mate or gnome.lxde and kde based ubuntu 13.10 , i have tried in complete linux installer and both failed to put network manager to good use.without it, i was fine using wifite in complete linux installer's kde based ubuntu 13.10.so if not,can anyone suggest a gui network manger interface , That 'just works' ,please ?

And yes wicd doesnt work here as well .it says Fail:starting network connection manager wicd : failed
