What does this achieve, why should this be merged?

The dev branch will get merged back into the main branch at some point anyways. If someone wants a "beta" version, they can easily pack the folder themselves. Don't know if that needs a specific github action

But still, with this, VERSIONLONG would need to be set manually, with the current github.ref_name this isn't the case. And why edit the release message?
