• looks up events (and/or city info if available)
• might read up on how contributing works

  Contributor

• adds event (and/or city info if available)
• might read up on what local ownership means

  Local owner

• starts, maintains and pulls city events and information
• keeps eye on keeping events updated every couple weeks
• keeps eye on which events are safe
• regularly pushes event organizers to add their events to the index themselves
• moderates discussions and enforces project CoC
• reviews safe flag once they're in place
• takes care about sharing knowledge and somebody else taking the local owner torch

Learning from NodeSchool

• the nodeschool model was that people would become org owners soon after code of them was merged into any sub repo: Mikeal Rogers: Future of Node - JSConf.Asia 2014 - YouTube
  • there has been an incident, where the whole org with all its repos had been deleted
  • as an owner you start receiving updates from all issues of all org repos, which really sucks (and only new-repo notifications come with instant-unsubscribe links)
  • I have myself been made an owner of the nodeschool org when contributing to the site and actually found being made an owner a bit overwhelming – mostly because it was unclear what responsibilities that brings
  • nodeschool has meanwhile split this into core team and local hosts
