Sync icons are missing after transferring data #359

Hey,

I've been using Mega for a few years now, but recently I had to wipe my boot drive (C:\) and do a clean install of Windows 7. The single Mega folder I was syncing was on my data drive (B:\), the entire contents of which I copied over to a new drive on a file-and-folder level. However, since that copy operation (done with Teracopy), and in spite of logging in and all of my data still being there, the folder overlay icons that used to be displayed - one for synced content, and one for content being synced - no longer display.

So far, I've tried:

None of this has worked - no matter what, I can't get the old icons back, and this makes me sad cause they looked pretty. One thing I did notice that I found strange and that may be relevant - I was able to run Mega without re-installing even after wiping my boot drive. I put this down to Mega being installed in %AppData%, which was part of the data that I copied over from the data drive, but maybe there's more to it than that.

Anyone have an idea how this can be fixed?

Please do make sure that MEGAsync still has the sync folders set up in the settings dialog, and the check box for it is ticked. Also do make sure you have installed the latest MEGAsync version on the clean windows install, as the ShellExt32/64.dll needs to be registered as a plug in for Explorer, in order to provide the info about which icons to display. cheers

It does, I also just tried removing it and adding it again. Still no syncing icons.

As mentioned in the original post, I had already tried this, and it didn't work.

Never mind - about 80% of the way through copying all my data back to the folder after I wiped, with the last folder to copy over, they're now showing up. I'm tempted to say it was installing Dropbox that did it, but that's probably just conjecture. ;)
