some way to filter out trees we can know immediately have no remeasurements?
there may be an entirely different approach using repeat joins and perhaps the CYCLE column of TREE.

This is astronomically faster and, by running at the state (not county) level, turns up a bug with the daisy-chaining method whereby if a tree occurs in multiple counties (yikes) the chain gets broken by parallelization to the county level.
