NetbookBootMaker 0.8.3 RC3 ruins MBR partition schemes #125

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Partition hard drive with a Master Boot Record partition scheme.
2. Modify the Mac OS X Installer to allow installation to MBR.
3. Install Mac OS X to any partition.
4. Attempt to install any OS (Windows 7) that requires MBR, or install it
before Mac OS.

What netbook are you using this on?
Dell Mini 10v

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should allow any major OS to function normally on the drive. Instead,
NetbookBootMaker modifies the Master Boot Record to some sort of GUID/MBR
hybrid, which shouldn't be happening. There is no need for GUID in this
case and actually interferes with other operating systems, which defeats
the purpose of the GUID/MBR hybrid.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
NetbookBootMaker 0.8.3 RC3, Mac OS X 10.5.6 Install DVD, Windows 7 Professional

Please provide any additional information below.
I don't think that gptsync (or whatever has been included in this release)
is meant to be run on a MBR partition scheme. It seems like it is working
backwards in this scenario. There should probably be a check put into place
to stop it from running on a MBR-only drive.

I'll look into verifying that it's on GUID before it modifies the table, but I
don't know how easy that'll be.

There really Isn't a reason to modify the installer to support MBR anymore
(other than to save 200mb). You can
install Windows 7 and XP with 0.8.3 RC3 without modifying the installer.

Next version should fix this. I'll verify that you are using GUID before it
touches the partitioning.
I'll mark as fixed when the next version is out.

Currently for me it is easier to install Mac OS X on a dual-boot MBR scheme
than it
is to attempt to dual-boot on the hybrid scheme. That's why I found this out.
And I
have tried some of the dual-boot instructions, it's been a mess.

Ya, NBI doesn't play nicely with Windows 7. With XP it's fine.

Again, it's fixed in my local copy.

Marking as fixed for the 0.8.3 release (once it's out... should be soon).

I don't think the issue is fixed. I have a Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 Media, any
release of NetbookBootMaker 0.8.3
that I use, destroy the MBR and the USB thumb drive end up seen as none
formatted drive.
