1. Removal of the kext restore the decrease brightness key functionality
2. Brightness slider in Preference pane also work after the kext removal
3. But the increase brightness key still does not work

A solution was found by NeoStuey in Mystiquemac Forum.

Here is his solution:
"I was only able to reduce my NC10's brightness using FN+12 but not increase it
using
FN+INS so I deleted ApplePS2Controller.kext and replaced it with
VoodooPS2Controller.kext in /Extra/NC10Ext.

Then I deleted Extensions.mkext from /Extra and ran UpdateExtra in /Extra and it
rebuilt the Extensions.mkext in /Extra.

Rebooted and now it's working perfect without any noticeable issues."

Increasing the brightness using Fn-Ins works, if you replace the
ApplePS2Controller with the
VoodooPS2Controller. More information can be found in the thread mentioned
above.

did a plain netbook installer installation on a nc10 and then removed
clamshelldisplay.kext

but there still are no brightness sliders
