Feature request - Mouse found = trackpad Off #203

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Use a Dell Mini 10v with 10.6. Type. Brush the bloody trackpad with any part of
your hand
while typing. Watch while the GD thing selects the current paragraph and you
overtype it. Swear
Loudly and start typing again. Be infuriated and toss the machine in the river.

What netbook are you using this on?
Dell 10v

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
In OS-X 10.5, there was a Preference item to set the trackpad to completely OFF
when any USB
or Bluetooth mouse was detected.
This preference went away in 10.6, and is apparently automatic on specific
models of
Macbooks, but not on Hackintoshes.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
10.6.2
------------------------------
Please provide any additional information below.
I love my 10v with OS-X, but it drives me crazy when typing, because it seems
impossible to
avoid brushing the double-d***ed trackpad with a thumb, and whenever you do, it
usually
manages to select the current paragraph and overtype it.

I've got the trackpad Threshold set to Least sensitive, and it's still a major
issue for me.

I don't know if this is possible, but I'm thinking that I'd sure like to see a
piece of SW that
temporarily shuts off the trackpad completely, if any USB or Bluetooth mouse is
attached, then
re-enables it if the mouse is removed. This was a feature in 10.5, and it's
tough to live without,
if you ever want to type on a netbook.

Keyboard and Mouse Preference item is not longer there in 10.6 UA now Mouse,
different from Keyboard.
The checkbox is no longer in either panel.
According to Apple, it is supposed to be automatic depending on Mac book mode,
as of SL.

Furthermore, setting Mouse Keys On does not turn off the trackpad, and there is
no other way to turn the
trackpad Off.

Setting the Synaptics trackpad preference pane to Off would be an acceptable
solution, but would need to revert
to On after a re-boot, or provide some other method to turn it On again without
a mouse...
