I had this same issue after installing 0.8.4RC1 and then updating to 10.6.3.
Installing
0.8.4pre fixed the issue, though now suspend doesn't work.

How would I go about installing the 0.8.4 pre? I also can't use safe mode, so
is that
still possible?

I booted from my the usb drive I installed from, connected to wireless, and
then in
the terminal (replacing 'bop', with the name of your volume):

cd /Volumes/bop/Applications
/Volumes/bop/usr/bin/curl -O http://netbook-
installer.googlecode.com/files/NetbookInstaller%200.8.4pre.app.zip
/Volumes/bop/usr/bin/unzip NetbookInstaller%200.8.4pre.app.zip
/Volumes/bop/Applications/NetbookInstaller\
0.8.4pre.app/Contents/MacOS/NetbookInstaller
