Kernel panic on installer boot, CPU-kernel mismatch in pmCPU.c

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create USB installer using latest 10.6.3 retail DVD and NBI 0.8.4RC1 
2. Boot netbook
3. Panic on boot

What netbook are you using this on?
Dell Mini 10v

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The system won't boot, but panics.  Booting in safe mode, flushing the kext 
cache, and booting verbose don't change the problem.  The panic is juat after 
SleepEnabler says "Registering PowerManagement dispatch table..." in verbose 
mode, and the panic message is "Version mis-match between Kernel and CPU PM".

I've tried booting with a kernel argument pmVersion=0, and also 18, 19, and 20, 
with the same result.  I'm not sure how best to determine what the CPU PM 
version is.  (Is it in the stacktrace?)  I'm surprised pmVersion=0 doesn't stop 
SleepEnabler from loading.

Found the following post on your blog: http://www.meklort.com/?p=219&cpage=1, 
with an answer to Stefanos from you that SleepEnabler shouldn't even be there.

I deleted the SleepEnabler.kext in Extra/, and then booted with -f.  That 
didn't solve the problem, so I tried just deleting Extra/ and re-running NBI.  
That did the trick.

I must have tried once with 0.8.3 and leftovers remained behind.  I think that 
upgrades may not remove kexts that should be removed, but I haven't tested that 
well enough to make a ticket for it.

Now we can get to the spinning circle, and no further.  Booting with -v shows 
that the process just seems to stop after trying unsuccessfully to make a 
number of RAMdisk mounts.  I don't have the machine in front of me so I can't 
give detail at the moment, and time's running out on this for me now, so I'll 
have to come back to this in a couple weeks.

I want to report success!  I think that the problem is related to creating the 
installer on 10.5 instead of 10.6.]

I first upgraded my iMac to 10.6, then restored the 10.6.3 DVD to the USB key 
again, then ran NBI on it.  It then booted my Mini 10v perfectly, and the 
install completed.  10.6.4 is downloading now.  I re-ran NBI but haven't 
restarted yet, so I can't report driver issues, but so far, so good.

I think that the installation instructions should get updated to emphasize that 
you need a 10.6 "toolchain" to set things up, and if you have problems, a good 
thing is to start with a fresh restore of 10.6.

I can confirm that you need to remove the /Extra directory and then run NBM on 
the FLASH drive. NBM can't overwrite files or something

I can also confirm this.
I ran NBM 0.8.3 from OS X 10.5.8 using a retail 10.6.3 DVD and ran into the 
same problem.
Fixed by deleting /Extras from the flash drive and then running NBM 0.8.4 from 
a different computer with 10.6.3.

I ran into the same CPU mismatch boot error after upgrading to NBI 0.8.4 RC1.  
I hadn't removed the /Extra directory before running it.

I was able to boot off a USB HDD that had a NetbookBootmaker 0.8.4 
RC1-generated OSX DVD install partition and removed /Extra and /Extra.bak using 
the Terminal.    Then I ran the NBI that was on the install drive and rebooted 
successfully.

  What works is NetbookInstaller 0.8.5 pre 
with no need to fiddle extras or pmVersion. 
  A prior version of installer gave cryptic version mismatch message. 
  Download the installer to a Snow Leopard mac, launch it, follow instructions to set up external usb disk that has the installer on it. 
  The Snow Leopard installer was loaded from a commercial DVD using a mac with Tiger using this guide http://osx.mechdrew.com/guides/nbi2.shtml 
but the rest of the guide for Tiger did not lead to success. 
 Launch the installer from the Dell net book mini 9. 
 Snow Leopard 10.6.3 can be installed on a 16 Gb usb memory stick. 
One can boot Snow Leopard from usb stick without wiping original linux from the 
internal drive in the Dell.

Hi, i installed 10.6.8 on my Mini 10v and now i can't get a bunch of things to 
work. i installed the latest netbook installer 0.8.5, but the wireless, 
ethernet, kb, trackpad, none are working. any suggestions? can i install .kext 
files for these items and a quick guide on how to install kext would be much 
appreciated. Thanks.

  What works for 10.6.3 is NetbookInstaller 0.8.5 pre

  To get internet to work, download and run Multibeast. 
Choose just one internet protocol; I used the middle of the three.
