10.6.7 Update Kills Booting and Wireless on Dell Mini 10v - Can't Clean Install, Boot Panic. #343

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start computer, gets small X on apple.
2. Restart, do shift then recovery=y and will get in. No Wireless.
3. Attempt to boot from install drive kernal panics with wrong CPU type
message.

What netbook are you using this on?
Dell Mini 10.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
See above.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
System updated to 10.6.7. It appears to not allow NetBookInstaller to
automatically run during bootup.

I was going to clean install but my hard drive that I boot from, and worked
before, kernal panics. Tried rerunning bootmaker on it, still same. Wrong CPU
type.

Please provide any additional information below.

The last 0.8.4 from his dropbox that fixed the 10.6.3 update.

I fixed my Dell Mini 10v!
I'm so pleased....

Here is what I did, I booted into recovery mode
Hold "shift" while booting, then type "recovery=y"
Then I reinstalled NetbookInstaller 20100616212351

Now it runs like a charm.
Therefore, the update must have written to the master boot record, but now it
works again.
I am running 10.6.7 with no problems.
Good luck!

Shift is not bringing up any other directory or screen what other options for
recovery mode are there. Is this the same as pressing F2 or F12 when at the
Dell screen?

So I ran the Netbook Installer in the updated 10.6.7 then went to /Extra and
ran the UpdateExtra utility. When I restarted I plugged in an ethernet cable
and the lights lit up. Once the restart completed my WiFi works and the
ethernet. Netbook Installer found here:

Hope this helps.
